On a recent visit to The Pet Project in Wilton Manors, Florida, the Eugene Ewan Mori Foundation trustees learned of an innovative initiative launched in the form of a mobile wellness van by the leadership of this non profit. The Pet Project is always looking for ways to optimally serve low income seniors and the disabled within the community, and this latest addition introduces a vital service in providing community based solutions committed to pet retention and support. The Pet Project will be bringing essential veterinary services directly to those who are housebound and unable to travel.
Sue Martino, the Executive Director of The Pet Project, emphasizes their mission and told us "Our aim has always been to keep the people and their cherished pets together." Sue went on to say, "When we realized that transportation barriers were preventing some of our most vulnerable clients from accessing basic veterinary care, we knew we had to change the model. The mobile wellness van allows us to remove that barrier."
The mobile wellness van will provide on site services such as wellness exams, vaccinations, basic medical treatment and referrals for further services that may be necessary.
The Pet Project for Pets is a 501(c)(3) non profit charity committed to keeping pets and owners together forever. They provide pet food, supplies, medical assistance and emergency support to low income seniors and those in hardship with the noble goal of preventing the surrender of beloved pets to overflowing animal shelters and an uncertain outcome.
